Verzia

→ Editorial Illustrations

Editorial illustrations for the issue of magazine Verzia, which explores the relationship between the present, memory, and history through essay. I’m very glad that my work brings me into contact with texts that help us make sense of what’s happening in the world today. This issue of Verzia includes several such pieces.

The essays by Paul Valéry and Antonio Gramsci feel eerily relevant to today’s social climate, even though they were written in the first half of the 20th century. They serve as a reminder that when evil is taking place, the worst thing we can do is remain silent and indifferent. Romanian author Mihaela Miroiu focuses in her essay on the status of women in today’s society, who—just like in the past—continue to face various forms of patriarchy.

Illustrations were created using a combination of digital drawings and traditional linocut prints.
